Step 2 - Charging

The GlideTV Navigator incorporates a rechargeable battery which is designed to last at least 2 weeks under normal conditions.

Before using the Navigator, set up the Charging Station (B) and dock the Navigator (A) at least
once. This will unlock the buttons and ensure that the Navigator will charge.

  1. To charge the Navigator, first plug the supplied USB cable (E) into the supplied power adapter (D).

  5. When the Navigator has been properly placed into the Charging Station, the buttons on the device will flash twice to indicate that it has been correctly docked and the Power button will begin to flash on/off slowly to indicate that the battery is being charged.

  6. Once the device has been charged, the Power button will remain lit to indicate that the battery has reached full capacity.

    NOTES:
The Navigator cannot be used while charging in the Charging Station.
The Battery typically takes around 4 hours to reach a full charge.

Step 3 - Connecting to your Home Theater PC (HTPC)

  1. Plug the USB Receiver into any available USB port of the Home Theater PC (HTPC) or PS3 connected to your TV. (If using with a Mac or PS3, see section Selecting the Operating
    System).

  9. After launching, you can either press the GlideTV button to launch the GlideTV home screen or press the Search button to launch the On-Screen Keyboard to search the web or enter a URL or enter text.

Step 5 - Setting the Operating System

Your Navigator needs to know which operating system you are using on your Home Theater PC (HTPC): Windows, Mac, or PS3. Each OS requires slightly different commands in order properly operate the applications. By setting your Navigator to the right OS, your Navigator will know which signals
to send to your HTPC.

The remote ships in Windows mode from the factory. Therefore this step can usually be skipped by anyone using a Windows OS. Setting the OS on your Navigator is easy.

  • Ensure you have the USB Receiver plugged into the HTPC you intend to control.
  • Press and hold at the same time, the touchpad and glidetv_logo_button.jpgbutton until all buttons blink
twice. This indicates that your remote is ready to be programmed.
    • The Navigator will continue to blink once every second 7 more times to indicate
that it is waiting for instructions.
    • After the seventh time, the power button will flash red and the remote will return
      to its initial state.
  • Press the top right, center, or left buttons located around the edge of the touchpad, as
indicated below, to select your operating system.
    • If the command was successfully programmed, the Power button will flash Amber
      repeatedly.

programming_os_mode.jpg

Step 6 - Setting the Touchpad Mode

Setting the Touchpad Mode on your Navigator is easy. You will now need to tell your Navigator which touchpad mode you prefer; Relative or Absolute. The touchpad responds very differently under each mode. The Navigator ships in Relative mode, from the factory.

  • Relative (Windows XP, Vista, 7, Mac, & PS3) – This mode is similar to how a touchpad works on a laptop. The cursor moves in the direction the finger/thumb is moved. Depending on the sensitivity of the cursor set on the Home Theater PC (HTPC), moving the cursor from one edge of the screen to the other may require multiple finger/thumb swipes.
    • Vertical and Horizontal Scrolling is only available in this mode.
    • This is the only mode supported by the PS3. If the mode is set to Absolute, the cursor movements will not be recognized.
  • Absolute (Windows Vista, 7, & Mac) – In this mode, the absolute coordinates of where the thumb or finger is touching the Navigatorʼs pad are sent to the HTPC. If you touch in the upper left corner of the touchpad, the cursor will immediately move to that location on the screen. This allows for immediate access to anywhere on the screen, without the need for multiple finger/thumb swipes on the touchpad.
    • When using the remote in this mode, it works best if you maintain contact with the touch surface at all times to ensure that the highlight maintains consistent tracking on the screen. When making a selection, do not remove your finger/thumb, but rather maintain contact and press down.
    • In this mode Windows Vista & 7 recognize our device as a digitizer with pen input and thus supports pen flicks and gestures in this mode.
  • Absolute (Windows XP) – This mode behaves like the previous Absolute mode but is designed to work with legacy operating system such as Windows XP.

Setting the Touchpad Mode on your Navigator is easy.

  • Ensure that the USB Receiver is plugged into the HTPC you intend to control.
  • Press at the same time, the touchpad and button until all buttons blink twice. This indicates that your remote is ready to be programmed.
    • The Navigator will continue to blink once every second, 7 more times, to indicate that it is waiting for instructions.
    • After the seventh time, the power button will flash red and the remote will return
      to its previous state.
  • Press the bottom right, center, or left buttons located around the edge of the touchpad, as indicated above, to select your touchpad mode.
    • If the command was successfully programmed, the Power button will flash Amber repeatedly.

First Row:

  • Mode – lets you select if you plan to enter search term (Default mode), URL or input text.
    • The default search engine is Google, but can be changed by clicking this button (see below)
  • Text input field – displays the keywords or URL you entered.
  • Go button – executes your search, or inserts text.

Second Row:

  • Predictive text buttons – guesses your search term based on what is already entered.

Third/Fourth/Fifth/Sixth row:

  • Full 26-letter Latin alphabet laid out in the standard “QWERTY” manner.
  • The keyboard layout changes based on the language selection.
  • Special characters are described under “Editing/Functionering Text Input” section.

Editing/Altering Text Input

  • Space is equivalent to the spacebar on a keyboard.
  • Backspace is equivalent to the backspace button on a keyboard. One click removes one character.
  • Clear eliminates all text from the input field.
  • Cancel closes the OSK application. In addition, it clears the current query and resets the currently selected search engine.
  • glidetv_logo_button.jpgreturns to the GlideTV main menu.
  • Shift toggles between (default) a lowercase alphabet, single-use uppercase alphabet (just like
holding down the shift button on a keyboard), and an uppercase alphabet, equivalent to leaving Caps Lock enabled on a keyboard.
  • ABC or 123 toggles between the alphabet and numbers along with special characters.
  • Clicking the button labeled #+= on the numeric/special character screen shows you more special characters.
  • Clicking the button labeled 123 on the special character/alphabet mode shows you the numeric input screen.
  • Clicking the button labeled ABC on the special character/numeric mode shows you the alphabet screen.
  • Language (icon) - The language button lets you cycle between English, French, and German keyboard layouts.
  • Accents - Holding down on a letter will display accented versions of that same letter or phonetically similar characters. For instance, if you require ŝ, you would hold down on the s button and additional options will pop up above that button.

Note: More details on accented and other non-English characters, including full keyboard layouts for all languages, are contained in the Appendix of this guide.

Searching for a term or keyword(s)

When the search screen was invoked using the search_button.jpgbutton on the Navigator or from the Home screen, the default mode is to Search the Internet. Clicking the Site icon for the currently selected search engine will open up the search engines options interface and lets you choose a search engine for your query.

app_osk_search_options.jpg

Click on the service you wish to use as search engine. Most options are related to video streaming with additional common sites like Amazon, Flickr, Google, and IMDB. Once selected this screen will hide itself.

  1. Enter your term. To add text to your search term or keyword list, move the cursor to the desired character and select it by pushing down on the touchpad. Text will always be added to the end of what has already been entered, not in the middle.
  2. As you enter your characters, the application will guess your search term. For example, if you enter “wes”, one of the predictive options will be “west”. If the application correctly predicts your search term, click the button that displays your desired text to update the input text.
  3. Select the Go icon (green arrow) when you've entered your desired text.

Entering text into an application

To enter text in an application, press the T button found in the OSK interface.

  1. Enter the desired text to insert into the other applicationsʼ text field.
  2. Once you are satisfied with the text you have entered, click the Go button (green arrow) on the top right of the display. Your text will now be inserted in to the text field that was previously selected.

Hardware Controls

Power

The Navigator has three different Power states: In use, standby, and off.

  • In use - While On the Navigator’s Power button will remain lit, indicating that the device is ready for use and operating properly.
  • Standby - After 10 seconds of no interaction, the Navigator will enter into Standby. While
in this state, the Navigator’s Power button will slowly flash on/off, indicating that it has
entered Standby. To wake up the device, you can either touch the pad or click any button.
Clicking a button will send the corresponding command to the HTPC or PS3.
  • Off - After 1 hour of no interaction, the Navigator will shut itself down to preserve battery life.
In this state, the Power button will not be lit. Press the Power button once to turn on the
    device.
    • Pressing the Power button in this state will not send the Power command to the PC nor put the PC into the sleep state.
NOTES: When removing the device from the docking station after charging,
the Navigator will default to ON. There is no need to first wake
up the device in order to use it.

Low Battery

When the battery falls below 10% of capacity, the Power button will flash Red when the touchpad or any button are pressed. While the Navigator can still be used for a limited amount of time, it is advisable to recharge the battery before extended use.

When the Navigator can no longer transmit data to the USB Receiver because the battery is near empty, the Power button will stay Red for a limited amount of time. The Navigator must be recharged for continued use.

NOTES:
If the Navigator has not been used for several months, it may no longer be able to indicate its status.

Demonstration Video Below

USB Receiver and Navigator Bind Procedure

In the event that your Navigator has become disconnected from the USB Receiver, you will need to follow the following steps to rebind or reconnect them.

The easiest way to determine whether or not your USB Receiver and Navigator have become disconnected is to look at the light on the USB Receiver after plugged in. If the light is flashing RED, then the USB Receiver has entered a mode where it is looking for a new Navigator to connect with. If so, please follow the steps below.

Demo video at the bottom of the page.

  1. Step 1
    1. Be sure the Navigator has been fully charged and the power is on by pressing the Power button. The Power button is indicated below.
      windows_navigation_buttons.jpg
  2. Step 2
    1. Plug the USB Receiver into an available USB port on the host PC, Mac, or PS3
    2. If the light on the USB Receiver is not already flashing Red, press and hold down, for approximately 10 seconds, the small button located on the top of the USB Receiver.
    3. The light on the USB Receiver will turn Green, at this point you can release the buttonusb receiver green light on
    4. You should now see a Red light begin to Flash
usb receiver showing the red light on
Note: This light will continue to flash for about 40 seconds, at which point it will shut off. The binding or connecting process must occur before it shuts off. If it does not, you will need to unplug and plug the USB receiver in again.
  3. Step 3
