  • Mode – lets you select if you plan to enter search term (Default mode), URL or input text.
    • The default search engine is Google, but can be changed by clicking this button (see below)
  • Text input field – displays the keywords or URL you entered.
  • Go button – executes your search, or inserts text.

Second Row:

  • Predictive text buttons – guesses your search term based on what is already entered.

Third/Fourth/Fifth/Sixth row:

  • Full 26-letter Latin alphabet laid out in the standard “QWERTY” manner.
  • The keyboard layout changes based on the language selection.
  • Special characters are described under “Editing/Functionering Text Input” section.

Editing/Altering Text Input

  • Space is equivalent to the spacebar on a keyboard.
  • Backspace is equivalent to the backspace button on a keyboard. One click removes one character.
  • Clear eliminates all text from the input field.
  • Cancel closes the OSK application. In addition, it clears the current query and resets the currently selected search engine.
  • glidetv_logo_button.jpgreturns to the GlideTV main menu.
  • Shift toggles between (default) a lowercase alphabet, single-use uppercase alphabet (just like
holding down the shift button on a keyboard), and an uppercase alphabet, equivalent to leaving Caps Lock enabled on a keyboard.
  • ABC or 123 toggles between the alphabet and numbers along with special characters.
  • Clicking the button labeled #+= on the numeric/special character screen shows you more special characters.
  • Clicking the button labeled 123 on the special character/alphabet mode shows you the numeric input screen.
  • Clicking the button labeled ABC on the special character/numeric mode shows you the alphabet screen.
  • Language (icon) - The language button lets you cycle between English, French, and German keyboard layouts.
  • Accents - Holding down on a letter will display accented versions of that same letter or phonetically similar characters. For instance, if you require ŝ, you would hold down on the s button and additional options will pop up above that button.

Note: More details on accented and other non-English characters, including full keyboard layouts for all languages, are contained in the Appendix of this guide.

Searching for a term or keyword(s)

When the search screen was invoked using the search_button.jpgbutton on the Navigator or from the Home screen, the default mode is to Search the Internet. Clicking the Site icon for the currently selected search engine will open up the search engines options interface and lets you choose a search engine for your query.

Click on the service you wish to use as search engine. Most options are related to video streaming with additional common sites like Amazon, Flickr, Google, and IMDB. Once selected this screen will hide itself.

  1. Enter your term. To add text to your search term or keyword list, move the cursor to the desired character and select it by pushing down on the touchpad. Text will always be added to the end of what has already been entered, not in the middle.
  2. As you enter your characters, the application will guess your search term. For example, if you enter “wes”, one of the predictive options will be “west”. If the application correctly predicts your search term, click the button that displays your desired text to update the input text.
  3. Select the Go icon (green arrow) when you've entered your desired text.

Entering text into an application

To enter text in an application, press the T button found in the OSK interface.

  1. Enter the desired text to insert into the other applicationsʼ text field.
  2. Once you are satisfied with the text you have entered, click the Go button (green arrow) on the top right of the display. Your text will now be inserted in to the text field that was previously selected.
